Meet Christine Smith
Health Therapist & Coach
I think I was born anxious. For years I believed a state of anxiety is normal. Chronic allergies, sinusitis, injuries and serious diseases like hepatitis and glandular fever also formed part of my existence. I believed all of it was uncontrollable and just part of life. Only when I started training in different therapies, I developed a much deeper understanding of the relationship
between body and mind and that by treating either of them, a much more pleasant way of being becomes possible.
In 1995, while teaching German for high school, I came across Reflexology and started my journey as a student and therapist of many modalities. Since then, I have been working full time doing all the therapies mentioned below. Since teaching has always been in my blood, I teach at Tshwane University of Technology on a part-time basis and love doing talks on health and wellness as well as offering workshops on anything health related.

Treatments to balance the body and mind
Reflexology - Eunice D. Ingham
A system of massage used to relieve tension and treat illness, based on the theory that there are reflex points on the feet, hands and head linked to every part of the body. By stimulating the reflexes blood and nerve supply are improved, stress and tension are released, and homeostasis is restored.
Kinesiology
A form of therapy that uses muscle monitoring (biofeedback) to look at
imbalances that may be causing disease in the body. Kinesiology aims to detect and correct
imbalances that may relate to stress, nutrition or minor injuries.
Trauma and tension release exercises (TRE) - Dr. David Berceli
A somatic body- based practice for people suffering with stress, anxiety, trauma or PTSD. It doesn’t require
talking about an event, feeling or issue, therefore overcomes the language barriers that can bring up added stress. The neuro-muscular tremors release deep-rooted muscular tension, and it regulates the nervous system so that a state of relaxation and calm is obtained.
Emotional freedom technique
Also known as tapping, this practice uses the fingers to tap on specific points of the body to help cope with stress and emotions. This holistic therapy is based on energy psychology and involves the mind, body and emotions. It is an excellent tool to use in immediate stressful situations and also effective in releasing old, unhealthy brain patterns. The technique is easy to learn in a single session.
Mindfulness coaching
mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts and bodily sensations. It is used as a therapeutic technique.
