Introducing Christine Smith
“I have been and still am a seeker, but I have ceased to question stars and books; I have begun to listen to the teaching my blood whispers to me.”
Herman Hesse
Two almost parallel paths led me to who I am today and what I have to offer. My formative years were dominated by karate training which lasted twenty-three very intense years. The person I am today was hugely influenced by that discipline. Bruce Lee said: I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.
Though true of karate I find it also true of life. It requires a very specific mind-set of perseverance to be able to overcome the so-called boredom of doing the same thing repeatedly; to never quit striving to improve. Only after many years of repeating the same movement for the ten thousandth time something happens in the mind and one becomes aware of acceptance, stillness, joy, and power deep inside oneself just by doing the movement and perfecting it with full awareness. The moment I discovered it, I realised that that was the optimal state of being. In that moment one is truly present, truly in the moment, truly in the body, exactly where one is supposed to be. That is the moment the words of Lao Tzu ring true: “Those who flow as life flows know they need no other force.” Then it becomes possible to tap into the wisdom inside oneself.
Later in my life I came across meditation and mindfulness and I realised that what I experienced in karate was very similar to the experience during meditation, with the latter of course less violent and more accessible to most people. That eventually led me to more in-depth studying and practising of meditation and mindfulness techniques.
The other, parallel path was one of natural healing. While teaching German for high school I once witnessed a reflexologist helping a woman to relieve severe pain in her arm. I was in awe of the ability of the body to heal itself and instinctively knew I was destined to be a therapist.
I embarked on a lifelong journey of studying the theory of and practicing several therapies: Reflexology, Kinesiology, Active Isolated Stretching, Trauma release exercises (TRE), Iridology, Homeopathy, Reiki, Chinese Acupuncture and Nutrition and Osteopathic Massage.
Through the years I became increasingly aware of the inseparable relationship between body and mind and that the one cannot be treated efficiently without implying the other. Especially after studying TRE I was thrilled to observe the incredible wisdom of the body to be able to regulate exactly what the individual is ready to release. Like in karate the person with most patience and perseverance achieves the best results.

There is nothing I love more than to provide a safe space for a client to mindfully connect with and integrate the healthy and wounded parts of his being to become the whole, wonderful living soul he / she was destined to be. Since teaching has always been in my blood, I teach at TUT on a part-time basis and love doing talks on health and wellness as well as offering workshops on anything health related.
